Mindfulness: There’s an App For That
If you’re already a member of A Plan For Living, you know how useful it is to have an app at your fingertips that you can turn to for help at any time. Well, APFL isn’t the only app out there that can help manage stress and cultivate calm.
In fact, we think you should check out one in particular that is a great fit with APFL, especially when it comes to learning how to meditate and increase mindfulness. It’s called Happify.
Practicing meditation to improve mindfulness can be one of the most effective strategies out there for “rewiring” your brain, teaching yourself how to slow down and evaluating situations before automatically reacting. Mindfulness gives you the power to choose a happy mindset, rather than letting your emotions rule your behavior.

Learn to Meditate
When you’re ready to try out meditation, Happify is a wonderful resource. We recommend starting by reading a little bit about the science behind mindfulness meditation. There’s also a wonderful video that describes the benefit of mindfulness in a short parable.
The real benefit of Happify starts when you access the training programs. If you decide to start with the free programs, you can choose from a handful of titles. Try “Mindfulness Meditation for Everyone” or “Cure Stress the Mindfulness Way” or even “Conquer Your Negative Thoughts.” Each track will take you through a series of short exercises to build your skills.

Meditation Leads to Mindfulness
By practicing meditation, you learn to notice what you’re feeling in the moment. You’re also learning to notice what’s going on around you without necessarily reacting to it. This practice allows you to see yourself as part of the world rather than the center of it. It’s a powerful tool for gaining balance and self-control.
By combining A Plan for Living and Happify, you’ll have two effective tools for managing the stress of the day right there in your pocket. APFL can act as a “check-in” each day to gauge your thoughts feelings and happiness level while Happify offers mindfulness techniques that help you act wisely on those thoughts and feelings.
